Today, Congressman David Valadao joined forces with Congresswoman Young Kim and the California Republican delegation to introduce a resolution condemning the riots in Los Angeles. The resolution comes amid ongoing unrest in the city.
Congressman Valadao stated, “I support the First Amendment right to peacefully protest, but the violence and vandalism happening in Los Angeles is unacceptable.” He emphasized that standing for law and order should be common sense and urged ICE to prioritize removing known criminals from the country. Valadao called on Governor Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass to condemn the chaos and collaborate with federal authorities to restore peace.
Congresswoman Young Kim expressed similar sentiments, saying, “Peaceful protests are a constitutional right, but vandalism, looting, violence, and other crimes are not. Protecting public safety shouldn’t be controversial.” She hopes for cooperation between Governor Newsom and President Trump to end the riots and ensure community safety.
Kim further criticized California’s policies by stating, “The riots escalated before the National Guard was sent in and were enabled by California’s soft-on-crime policies – peddled for years by Governor Newsom, Sacramento, and local prosecutors – that have allowed for lawlessness.”
The resolution presented by the delegation outlines several points: it recognizes the right to peaceful assembly; unequivocally condemns violence against law enforcement; calls on local and state leaders to work with federal authorities to end violence; and expresses gratitude to law enforcement officers for their efforts in maintaining safety.
