Born on October 24, 1979, in Bakersfield, California, Vincent Karchi Fong, a Republican, represents the 32nd Assembly district. This area covers much of southern and eastern Kern County, including west Bakersfield, the Tehachapi Mountains, the southern Sierra Nevada, and the northwestern Mojave Desert. Fong, a graduate of West High School, pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Arts in political science from UCLA in 2001 and an MPA in public affairs from Princeton University in 2003.
Starting his career as an aide for Congressman Bill Thomas, Fong focused on international trade policy, benefiting U.S. farmers and small businesses. Returning to Kern County, he served nearly a decade as the District Director to Congressman Kevin McCarthy. Fong actively engaged in local nonprofits, contributing to organizations like Goodwill Industries and Honor Flight Kern County.
Elected to the California State Assembly in 2016, Fong secured 73.2% of the vote in the 34th district. Re-elected in 2018, he won the 2022 election unopposed for the newly drawn 32nd district. Currently serving as Vice Chair on the Transportation Committee, Fong continues his dedication to public service with assignments on the Appropriations, Budget, Business and Professions, and Public Employment and Retirement committees.
