Congressman Vince Fong will hold the first Skilled Trades Fair for California’s 20th District on September 13, 2025. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the Associated Builders and Contractors facility in Bakersfield.

The fair aims to introduce local high school students to career opportunities in skilled trades such as carpentry, electrical work, and advanced manufacturing. Around 50 local small businesses are expected to participate, providing students with practical demonstrations and information about jobs that link classroom education with employment options.

“Our local students have tremendous opportunities to pursue different career paths, especially in skilled trades,” said Congressman Fong. “We want to showcase these in-demand jobs that provide strong salaries and a high quality of life. As a community, we must ensure our students are exposed to the possibilities that exist beyond the classroom as we work to build a stronger workforce pipeline and grow our regional economy.”

The event will bring together educators, employers, and community leaders who seek to strengthen the region’s workforce by highlighting available pathways for young people in the area.

All high school students from California’s 20th District are invited to attend. The fair is intended as an opportunity for them to learn more about skilled trades careers and connect directly with potential employers.
