Congressman David Valadao, who represents California’s 22nd district in the U.S. Congress, voted in favor of a short-term Continuing Resolution (CR) to reopen the federal government. The measure will fund the government until January 30th, allowing lawmakers more time to negotiate full-year appropriations bills.

The funding package includes three Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations bills: the Legislative Branch Appropriations Act, the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, and the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. Congressman Valadao currently serves as Chairman of the Legislative Branch Subcommittee.

“After 42 days of Congressional Democrats holding the country hostage, I proudly voted to reopen the government,” said Congressman Valadao. “This shutdown—the longest in our nation’s history—caused hardworking Americans to miss paychecks, delayed payments for federal programs like SNAP, and disrupted air travel, but this bill finally puts an end to the chaos. The short-term funding extension moves three of our appropriations bills forward, including the Legislative Branch Appropriations bill, and helps prevent another last-minute, bloated funding package. It also includes critical investments I helped secure to support groundwater recharge and strengthen public safety in the Central Valley, as well as to provide resources for our farmers and producers through the Agriculture Appropriations bill. Today is a win for transparency and good governance, and as a member of the House Committee on Appropriations, I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues in the House and Senate to deliver full-year funding bills for the American people.”

Each year Congress must pass all 12 appropriations bills by September 30th or enact a CR to keep government operations running. In September 2025, a short-term CR was passed by the House but not agreed upon by Senate Democrats until more than 40 days later. Currently, all twelve funding bills have cleared the House Appropriations Committee while only three have passed out of committee in the Senate.

Valadao has represented California’s 22nd district since 2021 after previously serving in the California State Assembly from 2010 to 2012. He was born in Hanford in 1977 and continues to reside there.
