Senator Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) has voiced opposition to actions by Democratic lawmakers in Sacramento, who she says are attempting to redraw congressional maps ahead of the upcoming midterm elections. Grove contends that these efforts go against measures approved by California voters in 2008 and 2010, which aimed to take redistricting out of the hands of politicians.
According to Grove, the new maps were advanced without sufficient public input or transparency about their origins. She stated, “California voters have spoken: politicians shouldn’t draw their own districts for personal or political gain. Forcing this power grab on our state without transparency is wrong for California. This bill was rushed through too fast, with no answers to voters’ questions. This isn’t about party politics—it’s about keeping our elections honest.”
The senator’s remarks follow concerns from some officials and advocacy groups about how redistricting processes can affect electoral fairness and representation.
