Kern County Board of Supervisors Recap, April 5, 2022

Meeting

The Kern County Board of Supervisors met today as scheduled for Tuesday’s April 5, 2022, Board Meeting. Supervisor Phillip Peters (District 1), Chairman Zack Scrivner (District 2), Supervisor Mike Maggard (District 3), Supervisor David Couch (District 4), and Supervisor Leticia Perez (District 5) were in attendance. Meeting Highlights:  

  • Item No. 3 AM session: 
  • The Board proclaimed April 5, 2022, as Children of the American Revolution Day of Service in Kern County. 
  • Item No. 4 AM session: 
  • The Board proclaimed April 23, 2022, as Scottish Gathering and Games Day in Kern County. 
  • Item No. 5 AM session: 
  • The Board proclaimed April 2022 as Autism Awareness Month in Kern County. 
  • Item No. 6 AM session: 
  • The Board proclaimed April 2022 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Kern County.

  • Item No. 7 AM session: 
  • The Board proclaimed April 10 – 16, 2022, as Public Safety Telecommunications Week in Kern County. 
  • Item No. 10 AM session: 
  • The Board approved an agreement with Nicole Eller, DVM, to provide Chief of Veterinary Services to the Kern County Animal Services Department through April of 2025. 
  • Hiring an Animal Services Veterinarian will greatly benefit the community, providing needed resources to Kern County pet owners and local animals. 
  • Item No. 22 AM session: 
  • The Board approved an agreement with Alpha Works Technologies, LLC, dba Bitwise Industries, for placement of participants in transitional jobs for its pre-apprenticeship developer program through March of 2023. 
  • Item No. 23 AM session: 
  • The Board approved an agreement with Foundation for California Community Colleges for the provision of third-party human resources and payroll services for paid work experience for participants enrolled in the Bitwise Industries Pre-Apprenticeship Developer Program through March of 2023. 
  • Item No. 24 AM session: 
  • The Board approved an agreement with Foundation for California Community Colleges for third-party human resources and payroll services for paid work experience for participants under the Recycling Lives Program, increasing the number of participants, and extending the term of the agreement through June of 2023.

  • Item No. 28 AM session: 
  • The Board approved an agreement with Garden Pathways, Inc. for youth mentoring services from July 1, 2022 – June 20, 2023. 
  • Item No. 38 AM session: 
  • The Board approved an agreement with California State University Bakersfield for the Public Health Pipeline Internship Project through June of 2025. 
  • This project offers annual internship opportunities to local college students pursuing nursing degrees in public health, to immerse students in public health settings, support their career preparation, and develop relationships with the Kern County Department of Public Health and our community. 
  • Item No. 45 Closed Session: 
  • Jeremy Oliver has been appointed the Interim Director of Aging and Adult Services. 
  • Mr. Oliver has been with the department for over 20 years and has served as an Aging and Adult Services Program Director for the last nine years. 
  • The Board thanks Mr. Oliver for accepting the role of Interim Director and looks forward to working with him.  
  • Item No. 22 PM session: 
  • The Board approved a $400 contribution to the Shafter Cinco de Mayo Committee to support this community event. 
  • Item No. 23 PM session: 
  • The Board approved a $1,000 contribution to Active Bakersfield Alliance to support the Bakersfield Marathon. 
 The next Regular Board Meeting is scheduled for April 26, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
