The BC English Department recognizes the excellent work, diversity and future potential of its students with its annual Student Colloquium. Currently-enrolled BC students are encouraged to submit an essay between 1500-3000 words on any topic in English and Literature. The first place finalist will be awarded $1000, while second and third place finalists will be awarded $250 each. All finalists will be published in Bakersfield College's online journal, The Grapevine.
Requirements
Students must be currently enrolled at Bakersfield College.
Students may write on any topic in English or Literature.
Essay must be a minimum of 1500 words, but may not exceed 3000 words.
Submissions due: Monday, April 18, 2022 by 5:00 p.m.

Event Details
Three finalists will be notified by Monday, April 25, 2022. They will be required to present their papers to the Colloquium on Friday, April 29, 2022, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Norman Levan Center for the Humanities.
Family and friends are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served. If necessary, the event will be held via Zoom.
No charge for admission.
The final chosen essay is awarded $1000; the two runner's up are awarded $250 each. All finalists will be published in Bakersfield College's online journal, The Grapevine.
