Earlier this month, California State University, Bakersfield faculty, staff and student research scholars celebrated a year of important research at the annual President's Associates Recognition Dinner. A highlight of the event is the awarding of the President's Medal, which, since 1997, has been conferred on a member of the community whose support has taken the university to the next level.
Successful executive, philanthropist and Bakersfield native Michele (Shelly) Carlin joins a list of our community's visionaries and leaders as the 2022 President's Medal recipient
In 2021, Shelly made a transformational gift to women’s athletics at CSUB with a $500,000 commitment to establish the Athletic Director’s Women’s Excellence Fund, which directly supports CSUB’s 10 women’s athletic programs. That generous gift has raised the bar for philanthropy at the university, taking Shelly’s support for CSUB beyond the $1 million mark
"Shelly, I’ve cheered on our `Runners with you my side at countless games in the Icardo Center, and your true love of CSUB athletics and belief in the power of collegiate sports to empower and uplift always inspires me," CSUB President Lynnette Zelezny said in presenting the medal.
