On May 21, 2022, at 6:37 a.m., deputies were dispatched to Kern County Fire Station 64, on Roberts Lane, for a burglary investigation. Upon arrival, deputies contacted the reporting party who said an unknown white male adult climbed over the fence onto the rear lot of the firehouse. The suspect broke a door window, entered the firehouse, and exited through the front door. The incident occurred when the firehouse was unoccupied. Deputies obtained video surveillance and it does not appear the suspect removed anything from the firehouse. The suspect was a shirtless white male adult, short hair, 20-30 years old, approximately 6’00” tall and 170 pounds.

On May 21, 2022, at 10:54 a.m., deputies were dispatched to Chamberlain Avenue and Harold Way for a victim of a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies found an adult male on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and was pronounced deceased a short time later. Further investigation revealed the victim was shot by a Hispanic male adult who fled the scene in a vehicle. Homicide detectives responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

On May 21, 2022, at 3:40 p.m., deputies were dispatched to Kern River Fish Hatchery in Kernville, CA for a report that a boy was seen in the river and appeared to be in distress. The reporting party said that the boy had a life vest but had not been seen for two hours. A search and rescue team call-out was initiated. Search and rescue personnel responded to the area and began their search efforts. During the search efforts, it was discovered the boy had made it out of the river. He was found safe and uninjured at a family member’s house in Kernville.
On May 22, 2022, at 10:45 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the 800 block of Rosa Court in Delano for a victim of a shooting. Prior to deputies arriving, the shooting victim a male adult was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Homicide detectives assumed the investigation.
