Two Police Dogs Were Shot

During the last year in Kern County, two police dogs were shot by suspects in the line of duty. Unfortunately, one of those canines died as a result of his injuries. We previously had ballistic vests assigned to each canine; however, these vest were old, heavy and were not custom fitted for each canine. They did not provide stab protection and their excessive weight was a risk to their longterm health.

We found a company that makes custom fitted, light-weight vests at a price of about $3,500 for each vest. Spike's K9 Fund paid for new custom-fitted, lightweight vests for each of our canines, a donation of $17,500 directly to the manufacturer.

Our gratitude is immeasurable! The safety of our canines is a priority and thanks to Spike’s K-9 fund our canines are ready to go!
