Dangers of Fireworks Use

1

Captain Justin Diez of the SCV Sheriff’s Station spoke alongside Santa Clarita City Mayor Laurene West, LA County Senior Field Deputy Stephanie English, Acting Assistant Fire Chief Nicholas Berkuta and Doctor Matt Young of the Grossman Burn Center, regarding the dangers of fireworks use.

Here are some key points in case you missed it:

FACT: All fireworks are illegal in the Santa Clarita Valley. Even those labeled “Safe and Sane.”

FACT: Any fire started by fireworks is no accident, it’s an act of negligence that can result in an arrest.

FACT: Sparkles alone can be responsible for setting the clothes you wear on fire.

FACT: In 2021, two fires ignited on 4th of July were related to the use of fireworks. This year we continue to struggle through one of the worst droughts in 1200 years, only increasing fire danger more.

SCV Station will be deploying three additional teams of deputies to conduct firework suppression, citing anyone in violation this holiday. So leave it to the professionals and help keep you, and those around you, safe from potential injury and fire dangers by avoiding illegal firework use.
