Shooting Investigation

On July 17, 2022, at 12:17 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the 400 block of 11th Street in McFarland for a shooting investigation. Deputies arrived and contacted two adult females who said an adult male family member shot at them with a handgun as they drove away from their family ranch after a verbal dispute. No one was injured. Through investigation, deputies developed probable cause to arrest the suspect for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, negligent discharge of a firearm, and felon in possession of a firearm. Deputies were unable to locate the suspect. A Ramey Warrant was issued for his arrest. 

At 8:59 p.m., deputies received a report that the suspect was currently at a residence located on the 2000 block of Via Tuscania Avenue in Delano. Upon arrival, deputies saw the suspect drive away from the residence. Deputies initiated a traffic stop and he was taken into custody without incident. pursuant to a search warrant, two handguns and a large amount of ammunition were found at the family ranch where the shooting occurred. The suspect, 44-year-old Roberto Puentes, was arrested and booked on the Ramey Warrant.
