WASHINGTON – On April 24, Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-22) released the following statement on Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day. Congressman Valadao is the co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian issues.

“Today on Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day, we pause to recognize the 1.5 million Armenians who were persecuted by the Ottoman Empire during the early 1900s. The impact of these horrific crimes are still felt today by millions of Armenians, and we must do everything in our power to ensure something like this never happens again," said Congressman Valadao. "As Americans, we have a responsibility to acknowledge the devastation felt by the countless Armenian families impacted by this tragedy. I’m honored to stand with the Central Valley Armenian community on this solemn and important day.”

Background:

Today, Congressman Valadao joined Rep. Anna Eshoo, along with other leaders from the Congressional Armenian Caucus to introduce the Armenian Genocide Education Act, legislation that would fund educational programs at the Library of Congress to educate Americans on the Armenian Genocide. In 2021, Congressman Valadao led the efforts for President Biden to formally recognize the Armenian Genocide.
