Kern County’s 140 coaches earned an average salary of $58,064 in 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

This is the 16th highest average salary per county earned by coaches at California post-secondary schools during 2022.

Kern County is home to four post-secondary schools that paid coaches during 2022. Among them, California State University-Bakersfield stood out with the highest average coaching salary of $97,977.

Male coaches of men's teams received $66,210 on average in Kern County, while female coaches in charge of women's teams earned an average of $44,354.

Research from the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management found NCAA coaches are compensated like CEOs, with top coaches earning more than $1.5 million annually.
