Congressman David Valadao has joined forces with Rep. Salazar, Rep. Escobar, and a bipartisan group of 17 members to introduce the Dignity Act of 2025. This proposed legislation aims to provide a 7-year temporary legal status for undocumented immigrants who have resided in the United States since before 2021 and meet specific criteria, such as passing a criminal background check.
Valadao emphasized the importance of immigration reform that balances law and order while acknowledging the contributions of undocumented immigrants. “In the Valley there are many people who have lived and worked peacefully for years, and they deserve a fair opportunity to earn legal status,” he stated.
Rep. Salazar described the bill as a revolutionary approach to addressing immigration issues by securing borders, halting illegal immigration, and offering long-term immigrants an opportunity to work legally. “No amnesty. No handouts. No citizenship,” she noted.
Congresswoman Escobar highlighted her personal experiences with the current immigration system’s challenges and stressed the need for realistic compromise. She considers the Dignity Act of 2025 crucial for overhauling existing policies and praised her partnership with Salazar on this initiative.
The bill’s key provisions include granting legal status to Dreamers, supporting American industries facing labor shortages, updating visa categories, and reducing backlogs for high-skilled worker visas.
