Congressman David Valadao (CA-22) has announced his support for the passage of H.R. 4553, the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2026. The bill was approved by the House and includes funding for infrastructure projects in California’s Central Valley, as well as national initiatives related to energy production and security.
Valadao, who serves on the House Committee on Appropriations, emphasized the importance of water resources in his district. “As a member of the House Committee on Appropriations, I was proud to support the FY26 Energy and Water Development bill, which makes critical investments in the Central Valley,” said Congressman Valadao. “Water is the lifeblood of our communities, and this bill strengthens our region’s resiliency, secures reliable water supplies, and restores conveyance systems our farmers and families depend on. It also funds key infrastructure priorities, like the Success Reservoir Enlargement Project and much-needed repairs to Bureau of Reclamation canals. I’ll keep working with my colleagues to ensure the Central Valley has the resources it needs as we continue advancing our funding bills.”
The legislation provides $14.6 million for expanding Success Reservoir and $201 million for Bureau of Reclamation storage projects under the reauthorized Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act through 2027. It also allocates $20 million for repairs to delivery canal subsidence by the Bureau of Reclamation.
Other provisions include increased investment in geothermal energy development using domestic resources, continued funding for electric grid cybersecurity efforts, and a focus on prioritizing research spending within applied energy technology programs.
The total discretionary allocation under this appropriations act is $57.3 billion—$24.1 billion designated as non-defense funding and $33.2 billion as defense funding.
David Valadao has represented California’s 22nd congressional district since 2021 after replacing TJ Cox that year; he previously served in California’s State Assembly from 2010 to 2012. Born in Hanford in 1977, Valadao continues to reside there while serving in Congress.
