Born on May 14, 1965, in Bakersfield, California, Erik Philip Paulsen, an American businessman and politician, represented Minnesota's 3rd congressional district from 2009 to 2019. Graduating from Chaska High School in 1983, he attended St. Olaf College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics in 1987. Paulsen worked as an intern for Republican Senator Rudy Boschwitz from 1989 to 1990 and later took a staff position with Republican Representative Jim Ramstad in Washington, D.C. In 1994, he was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives, serving until 2009. Paulsen worked part-time for Target Corporation from 2007 to 2009 while in the House.

Elected as a Republican, Paulsen served on various committees in the Minnesota House of Representatives. His campaign faced calls for public town hall meetings in 2017, and in 2018, he held in-person town hall meetings, distancing himself from Donald Trump. A member of multiple caucuses, Paulsen took positions against certain acts, introduced legislation, and supported tax reform.

In personal life, Paulsen, a Lutheran, is a family man with four daughters, residing in Eden Prairie. Involved in philanthropy and organizations, he participated in leadership fellowships and received recognition for his contributions. Paulsen's journey reflects his dedication to public service and engagement in diverse issues.
